Each year, the Massachusetts Music Educators Association's Eastern District organizes two music festivals, a senior festival for 9th-12th graders and a junior festival for 7th-9th graders. Ensembles are comprised of students from the surrounding area (Acton, Boston, Weston, etc.).
The festival includes a concert band and a jazz band (jazz band is limited to saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, piano, and drums). Students must prepare a predetermined audition piece as well as memorize several scales.
Typically, auditions take place on a Saturday at the end of January and the festival is on a Friday and Saturday at the beginning of March. Exact dates can be found on the Calendar. It is expected, should a student be accepted to the festival, that they will attend the festival.
Requirements, including scales and audition pieces, can be found on the MMEA Eastern District website. All the required pieces are available through the band’s Google Classroom.
